So many corona spread in the jail that the state will release 17000 prisoners immediately

Many prisoners were released on parole in Gujarat due to the corona, but now the Maharashtra government has decided to release 17,000 prisoners on parole after hundreds of inmates at the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai, Maharashtra, came to the surface of the corona.

A high-level Home Department committee set up by the Maharashtra government has decided to release 17,000 inmates from the state's jails at present. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said those facing serious cases would not be released. In Maharashtra, about 11,000 prisoners, serving less than seven years, were released on parole. In Gujarat too, many prisoners were released under the same rule.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said: “About 185 inmates at Arthur Road Jail have suffered from corona and are undergoing treatment. The Maharashtra government has decided to grant temporary parole to 17,000 out of 35,000 prisoners so that they do not become infected. Prisons are maintained with COVID-19 and social distance. ”

Notably, Arthur Road Prison has five times more inmates than capacity. Now there are so many prisoners in this jail that a separate Korona ward has to be set up in the jail itself. Not only the inmates but also the staff and officers of the jail have been affected by the corona.
