Amid prevalent chaos and uncertainty over access to the essential services and commodities during the lockdown, we bring you the latest updates from Mumbai.
* ANI update at 4.18pm | 35 personnel of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have been tested positive for Covid-19 so far. Eleven of them were deployed in Mumbai airport, 11 were performing duty with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, 3 were deployed at Delhi airport and 2 were at Mumbai port: CISF
* Update at 3.45pm: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation amends it's April 30 order to reduce employees' strength to 75% to maintain social distancing in its offices.
* Update at 3.41pm: An NGO from Bihar has offered to pay for the travel cost of 50 trains to carry Bihari migrants and students stranded in Mumbai to their native places.
* PTI update at 3.38pm: An officer working with capital markets regulator Sebi has tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the regulatory authority to get its headquarters in Mumbai completely sanitised as per the necessary protocols
*Soon, even 1 worker can book seat on MSRTC site
* Update at 1.56pm: In Maharashtra, students from semester 1 to 7 to be promoted without exam for graduate courses, minister of education announced through a public address.
Semester 8 students will have to give exams. Performance of previous year will be considered for grading students in semesters 1 to 7
* Update at 1.44pm: BMC provides mask and sanitier to train travellers from LTT Kurla terminal in Mumbai
* Update at 1.32pm: Only final year final semester exams will be conducted between July 1 and 30. Final decision will be taken around June 20. Remaining students will be promoted to next year based on their previous performances, says Maharashtra higher and tech

* Update at 10.43am: BMC commissioner given power of additional municipal commissioner to four senior IAS officers deputed by the state government to assist the civic authority in handling the Covid-19 situation during pandemic.
*With nearly 2,000 containment zones in Mumbai, the BMC tied up with e-delivery companies to ensure residents of these zones get essentials delivered to their doorsteps.
* Update at 9.28am: Death toll due to Covid-19 rises to 1,886; cases climb to 56,342 in India, reports PTI quoting Union health ministry
* Update at 8.35am: More than 50% of total Covid-19 positive cases reported in the first week of May in NMMC area
*Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, while addressing an all-party leaders’ meeting via video conference indicated that the lockdown may be extended till the end of May in the state’s red zones, especially the Mumbai and Pune metropolitan regions which have contributed 90% of Maharashtra’s cases so far.
*Despite the state government allowing builders to recommence work, many workers at building sites in Mumbai and surrounding areas are desperate to leave for their hometowns.
*The BMC will in the next few days add around 200 beds for Covid-positive pregnant women. Apart from BMC-run Nair Hospital near Mumbai Central, three other public hospitals will provide care for such women.
*The state government’s decision to ease the lockdown restrictions for industries has received a huge response with 44,474 manufacturing units self-certifying online to resume operations.
