Drinking tea in a paper cup can cause serious harm, claims IIT research

It is common to see people drinking tea in paper cups to avoid plastic glasses. We drink tea in paper cups because of the plastic damage. But a new study claims that even in paper cups, drinking tea can be seriously harmful.

Indeed, researchers at IIT Kharagpur have claimed it through a research. According to this, if a person drinks tea or coffee three times a day in a paper cup, he swallows 75,000 small micro-plastic particles.

According to a report in the Times of India, the research confirms that the ingredients used in the cup contain microplastics and other hazardous ingredients and contain contaminants in the hot liquid serving.

Paper cups have a thin layer of hydrophobic film consisting mostly of plastic and sometimes co-polymer. The researcher and associate professor of the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. Sudha Goyal, along with other researchers, said that in 15 minutes this micro-plastic layer melts in a hot water reaction.

Researchers followed two different procedures for this research. This thing has come up against it. It has also been found that these micro-plastic ions can act as carriers in toxic heavy metals. When they reach the human body, they can have serious health effects.
