Tragic incident happened in the new year itself: 12 people died suddenly in Vaishnodevi temple

At least 12 people were killed and more than 14 others were injured in a stampede at the Vaishnodevi temple in Katra in Jammu and Kashmir around 2.45 pm, three of them in critical condition. All the injured have been admitted to the local Narayan Hospital for treatment. Most of the dead were from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, and 12 of the 12 dead included two women.

Attendees at the scene said there was not enough security. A large number of people had gathered. There was no way out. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also expressed grief over the accident. Regarding this incident, the central government has given Rs. 2 lakh and 50 thousand compensation to the injured. Jammu and Kashmir Governor Manoj Sinha has announced Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh to the injured. The cost of treatment of the injured will be borne by the Shrine Board.

Rahul Gandhi also expressed grief over the vandalism at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhavan. He tweeted condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
